A post once a month, whether I need it or not

Wow. A whole month? Yipe.

Well, yesterday I finished my mid-term for History of Western Philosophy, answering such fun questions as
  • In brief (short) paragraphs, describe the view of each of the Ionian (or Milesian) philosophers concerning the nature of reality.
  • What does Plato declare to be the cause of evil?
  • What is the Platonic (Socratic) relationship between virtue and function?
  • What is the purpose of Plato's Republic? Be sure to state Plato's three classes that he sees to be essential to a "successful" republic.
  • What is logic and its function in Aristotle's philosophical system?
  • What place does Boethius hold in the development of philosophy during the Medieval Period? State his major literary contributions.
  • Briefly recount the distinctives of the major figures in Arabian and Jewish philosophy particularly in terms of the relationship between reason and faith.
  • Describe the various "divisions" or "categories" of "law" in relation to morality as suggested by Aquinas.
  • In what way was John Duns Scotus a "critic" of Aquinas? What was his view of the relationship between "will" and "intellect"?
  • Describe and state the implications of Johannes Eckart's mysticism.
Now with that ordeal over, I need to get my rear in gear and move on the term paper for this class. For some reason, I picked Kant's Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals as my topic. Dumb move. I can pretty much get the idea when I'm reading secondary sources on this stuff, but when I crack home E.K. himself...it's like I'm reading Latin. I recognize many words, but have no idea what they mean when strung together that way. Ugh.

Intro to Reformed Theology is going fine..need to pick up the pace on my Shorter Catechism memorization and outlines of the Confession, but it'll be fine...and fun.
